Vol. 72 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hayden Estate, Laoighis.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the reason why a cottage tenant named Patrick Fitzpatrick, Morrette, Emo, Laoighis, was refused a portion of land on the Hayden estate; whether the father of the applicant and the applicant, who is a married man with ten children, had grazing rights on this estate for many years; whether he is aware that the applicant is being compelled as a result of the action of the commissioners to sell his two cows and other live stock; and whether an old age pensioner without any dependents and a single man received portions of land on the same estate.

Mr. Boland

The application of Mr. Patrick Fitzpatrick, an R.I.C. pensioner, was fully considered by the Land Commission when the lands on the Hayden estate were allotted, but owing to the limited amount of land available (73 acres) it was not found possible to provide him with an allotment.

The allottees to whom the Deputy appears to take exception were the owners of uneconomic holdings in the vicinity of the estate. The Land Commission have divided the lands for relief of congestion in the manner they considered as being to the best local advantage.
