Vol. 72 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Extension of Skerries Graveyard.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the grounds of refusal to sanction proposals to extend the graveyard at Skerries.

The proposal submitted by the Dublin Board of Public Health for extension of the burial ground included the acquisition of two separate plots of land. The site plan showed these plots to consist of 1a. 0r. 6p. and 2a. 1r. respectively. The board proposed to pay £150 for the smaller plot (subsequently increased to £180) and £50 for the larger plot. Only the smaller plot was intended to be used for the extension of the burial ground. It appeared that the larger plot of 2a. 1r. when acquired by the board was to be transferred by them to the owner of the smaller plot of 1a. 6p. in addition to a payment of £180. No adequate reasons were submitted to warrant my according sanction to the proposed transaction.

Arising out of the reply given by the Parliamentary Secretary, I would like to ask him why it was that in the communication that was sent to the Dublin Board of Health, the reasons for the non-sanction that he has given here now were not stated?

That is a separate question.

Well, it is common sense, and we expect common sense from public officials.
