Vol. 73 No. 1

Written Answers. - Employment in Insurable Occupations.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the estimated number of persons in full-time employment weekly in occupations insurable under the Unemployment Insurance Acts for the year ended March, 1937, as reckoned from the net contribution income for that year.

Taking the average contribution at 17.3d. per week, the average number of persons employed weekly during the year ended 31st March, 1937, estimated from the net contribution income of the Unemployment Fund in that year was 245,000. The expression "net contribution income" is used in the same sense as in the memoranda—The Trend of Employment and Unemployment (P. Nos. 1852, 2642 and 3142).
