Vol. 73 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Registry Maps.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that solicitors are complaining of delays of as long as three months in the issue of maps by the Land Registry; that these delays are due to a considerable reduction in the number of draughtsmen employed in the Central Office of the Land Registry; and if he will take immediate steps to provide that all arrears will be cleared up, and that maps will be issued immediately, as heretofore, on receipt of requisition.

I am aware that there have been complaints of delays in the issue of maps by the Land Registry. These delays are due to the fact that an exceptional number of vacancies have arisen in the staff by the death or retirement during the last year or so. Steps have already been taken to fill the vacancies. One appointment was made within the past week, and I anticipate that three further appointments will be made in the very near future. I am hopeful that with these appointments the cause of complaint will rapidly disappear.
