Vol. 74 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Assistance Acts.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware of the general dissatisfaction that exists because of the inadequacy of the benefits provided under the Unemployment Assistance Acts for men residing in rural areas; and if it is his intention to introduce proposals for legislation at an early date with a view to increasing these benefits substantially.

The reply to both parts of the question is in the negative.

Am I to understand from the Minister that while he admits responsibility of the State for five children of an unemployed person, he is not prepared to admit any responsibility for over five children?

That is a separate question.
