Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Insurance Investments.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the extent to which (a) under Section 56 (2) and (b) under Section 56 (3) of the National Insurance Act, 1911, moneys have been invested in the securities of local authorities in Ireland within the meaning of the Local Loans Act, 1875, or in any other funds of such authorities.

The Local Loans Act, 1875, does not apply to Ireland. The amounts invested up to the 31st December, 1938, in securities of local authorities in Ireland under sub-sections (2) and (3) of Section 56 of the National Insurance Act, 1911, are as follows:—(a) under sub-section 2, £333,822 16s. 6d.; (b) under sub-section 3, nil.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the nominal value of the investments in loans floated by local authorities (a) held by the National Health Insurance Society, and (b) held in respect of investments made by him under Section 56 (3) of the National Insurance Act, 1911.

The nominal value, at the 31st December, 1938, of the investments under the National Health Insurance Acts in loans floated by local authorities is (a) investments held by Cumann an Árachais Náisiúnta ar Shláinte under Section 56 (2) of the National Insurance Act, 1911, £346,736 11s. 1d.; (b) investments held by the Minister on behalf of the society under Section 56 (3) of the National Insurance Act, 1911, nil.
