Vol. 74 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Town Tenants' Tribunal.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state whether any report has yet been received from the commission appointed to consider the question of occupational tenancies of houses and parts of houses; and, if so, whether it is his intention to publish at an early date the report or any interim report in the matter received by him.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that tenement dwellers in Dublin City are being extensively exploited by slum landlords; and whether with a view to abating this abuse he will expedite the publication of the Town Tenants' Tribunal Report.

I propose to take questions Nos. 9 and 10 together. I have not yet received the report of the Town Tenants (Occupational Tenancies) Tribunal. I understand, however, that the tribunal is engaged on the task of preparing its report, and that it is hoped to have it completed without undue delay.

Is the Minister aware that in the interval tenement dwellers in this city are being subjected to very grave injustice, and owing to their financial circumstances are precluded from getting advantages which they are clearly entitled to in law, and would he consider taking some intermediate action pending publication of the report?

As the Deputy is aware, the matter is under investigation and, in view of that, I do not propose to make any statement in regard to it.
