Vol. 74 No. 6

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dillon Estate, Co. Mayo.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that acute congestion exists on the Dillon estate, in the townland of Cloondace, Knock, Co. Mayo, where there are twenty tenants whose poor law valuation is under £4 each; and if he will state what steps, if any, are being taken by the Land Commission to acquire the untenanted holdings in the same townland for the purpose of providing economic holdings for the tenants on the Dillon estate.

The Land Commission have no proceedings for the acquisition of any holdings in the townland of Cloondace, which formed part of the Dillon estate acquired and resold to the tenants by the former Congested Districts Board. If the Deputy will be good enough to furnish particulars to the Land Commission of the holdings to which he refers the matter will be investigated.

Is the Minister aware that there are over 80 acres of untenanted land in that townland which, I understand, is owned by people in the United States? There is no reason why the Land Commission should not take this land over and provide economic holdings for these poor tenants whose valuations are only about £5.
