Vol. 74 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Migratory Labour.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state which of the recommendations made by the Departmental Committee on migratory labour have been accepted by the Government; and what steps have been taken to date to give effect to these recommendations or any of them.

The recommendations of the Inter-Departmental Committee on seasonal migration numbered 6, 7, 9, 11, 12, 13, 16, 17, 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30 have been accepted by the Government (the numbers correspond to the numbered paragraphs in pages 51-53 of the report). Of these, the recommendations in paragraphs 9, 11, 17 and 29 are being carried out. The remainder of these recommendations are under consideration by the Departments concerned with a view to determining the most practicable means of giving effect to them. Recommendations numbered 3, 4 and 5 have been accepted in principle, and steps are being taken to determine the most practicable application of these recommendations. Recommendation No. 8, relating to the co-ordination of housing activity, is to be examined in detail by the Departments concerned. The recommendations numbered 14, 15, 18 and 23 are still under consideration by the Departments concerned.
