Vol. 74 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Indebtedness of Dublin City.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state what is the total indebtedness of the City of Dublin at the present time, and what was it when the Commissioners relinquished their control.

The accounts of the Corporation of Dublin are prepared in respect of each financial year ended on the 31st March. I am not in a position to give the indebtedness at the particular dates mentioned in the question, but at the 31st March, 1938, the indebtedness was £8,650,523, and at the 31st March, 1931, being the end of the accounting period following the termination of the office of the Commissioners, the indebtedness was £5,566,741.

Mr. A. Byrne

Will the Minister inform the honourable member who asked the question if the total increase is entirely due to the housing activities of the corporation; that they built 7,000 houses for the workers, and gave 6,000 men employment every week at decent wages?
