The total numbers of men, women and children (exclusive of boarded-out children) in receipt of home assistance on the last Saturday of March, 1938, were 16,904, 25,640 and 36,058, respectively. The number of boarded-out children was 2,329.

The amounts are as follows:—£557,418 during year ended 31/3/37, and £573,826 during year ended 31/3/38.
