Vol. 74 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Dockyard.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he can now state what the future of the Dublin dockyard is to be; if he has under consideration proposals to open it as an official yard for ship repairs and building; if not, if he is prepared to grant facilities that will be sufficient to induce investors outside this country to do so.

I have been in close touch with the Dublin Port and Docks Board for a considerable time in the matter of the possible re-opening of the Dublin Dockyard. The Port and Docks Board has had several schemes under consideration but a satisfactory scheme has not yet been evolved. The Deputy may rest assured that everything possible is being done both by the Dublin Port and Docks Board and by this Department to have some arrangement concluded by which work would be resumed in the dockyard.
