Vol. 75 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Congestion.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that acute congestion exists in the townland of Crossbeg, Aghamore, County Mayo; and if he will state what steps, if any, are being taken by the Land Commission to acquire the four untenanted holdings in that townland for the purpose of providing economic holdings for the tenants whose valuations are under £10.

The Land Commission instituted proceedings for the acquisition of the lands of Crossbeg on the Brennan estate. The owner objected to their acquisition and his objection was heard by the Land Commission and allowed. On further consideration, the Land Commission have decided to institute fresh proceedings for the acquisition of these lands. The other three holdings in the townland of Crossbeg to which the Deputy refers are of small area, from six acres to 12 acres each, and it is not proposed at present to acquire them.

May I further ask the Minister who is acting for the Minister for Justice, in relation to Questions 3 and 4, if I make representations privately and directly to the Department of the Minister for Justice, will they be immediately investigated?

Every facility will be given.
