Vol. 76 No. 1

Written Answers. - Congestion in Mayo.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that acute congestion exists in the townland of Ara South, Balla, County Mayo; that there are ten tenants in that townland whose poor law valuations are under £3 each; that there are several untenanted holdings in that townland and vicinity let in grazing; and, if he will state what steps, if any, are being taken by the Land Commission to provide economic holdings for the tenants in this townland.

Mr. Boland

The Land Commission are aware of the congestion in the townland of Ara and are taking steps to relieve it. They have completed the resumption of one holding of 5 acres, 1 rood, 15 perches, in the adjoining townland of Aghaluskey and are taking proceedings for the resumption of three further holdings comprising a total area of 36 acres, 3 roods, 24 perches in the townland of Ara and Aghaluskey.
