Written Answers. - The Industrial Alcohol Company.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (a) the total authorised capital of the Industrial Alcohol Company; (b) the total amount of such held by the State.

The total authorised capital of Monarchana Alcóil na h-Eireann Teoranta is £500,000 (five hundred thousand pounds) divided into 500,000 (five hundred thousand) shares of £1 each.

The issued capital to date is £18,007, of which £18,000 is held by the State.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the total amount of State money expended on the production of industrial alcohol in each of the years ended the 31st March, 1934, 1935, 1936, 1937, 1938 and 1939, indicating the amounts spent under the principal headings of expenditure.

Particulars of the expenditure incurred by the State on the industrial alcohol undertaking during each of the financial years up to 1937-38 were included in the annual reports that were laid before the House pursuant to Section 17 of the Industrial Alcohol Act, 1934. During the period 1st April, 1938, to 20th March, 1939, that is, to the date of the transfer of the undertaking to a public company, the expenditure of State funds amounted to approximately £133,000, made up as follows:—

The figure of £133,000 is subject to adjustment on audit.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in respect of each of the industrial alcohol factories for the 1938-39 working season, the quantity and value of potatoes bought, the quantity and value of industrial alcohol produced, the number of wage-earners employed during the working season, the length of the working season, and the total amount of wages paid during the working season.

A statement containing the information desired by the Deputy will be circulated with the Official Report.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the total quantity and value of industrial alcohol produced in each of the years ended the 31st March, 1938 and 1939.

The total production of industrial alcohol during the year ended 31st March, 1938, was 207,199 gallons, value £31,079 17s. The corresponding figures for the period 1st April, 1938, to 20th March, 1939, that is, to the date on which the undertaking was transferred to a public company, are 564,015 gallons, value £84,602 5s.
