Vol. 77 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Remission of Rates on New Houses.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that the period during which new houses could claim remission of rates expired on October 1st last; whether he proposes to introduce legislation extending the period during which remission of rates may be claimed, and, if so, when.

A Bill dealing with the matter is in preparation and will be introduced shortly.

What does the Minister call "shortly"? Is he aware that there is considerable unemployment in the building trade and that a certain number of houses are waiting on this Bill being introduced.

I should say within a few weeks.

Would it be safe for a builder to sell such houses in the County Dublin with the assurance that there would be the usual remission of rates as obtained heretofore?
