Vol. 78 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision of School Meals.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that the schools in the Killorglin and Glencar parishes are excluded from the provisions of the School Meals (Gaeltacht) Act, 1930, while meals are provided under this Act for the schools in Glanbehy parish which immediately adjoins them; and whether in view of the severe hardship imposed on the children of the parishes omitted, he will take steps to ensure that meals are provided in the schools of these parishes.

The reply to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. School meals may be provided in schools situated in one of the scheduled district electoral divisions comprised in the Gaeltacht as defined in the School Meals (Gaeltacht) Act, 1930. The schools in Killorglin and Glancar parishes are not so situated and do not therefore come under the terms of the Act.
