Vol. 78 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Additional Tillage.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the approximate number of additional acres expected to be ploughed in each county during the coming year under the compulsory tillage scheme and the total in each province.

The additional acreage which will be brought under cultivation in the forthcoming season is dependent on many factors difficult to assess and, consequently, it is not possible at this stage to give an estimate of the extent of such acreage.

The position in connection with the compulsory tillage plan is that no estimate has been made by the Department as to the number of additional acres which will be ploughed up in Meath, Cavan, Cork or any other county?

No. We should have to take a census of every farm to do that.
