Vol. 78 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Bakers' Flour.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he will state whether he has issued any orders controlling the supply and price of bakers' flour in the City of Dublin; and if so, if he will state what are the terms of these orders.

I have made no order controlling the supply of bakers' flour. Under the Emergency Powers Order, 1939, I made an order on the 16th October, 1939, providing that the prices at which bakers' flour, strong, may be sold by producers thereof shall not exceed 45/- per sack of 280 lbs. f.o.r.

Will the Minister say if, when fixing the price at 45/- per sack of bakers' flour f.o.r., he was aware that it is costing 49/- to deliver in the West of Ireland?

I could not answer that.

Is the Minister clear that it was under the Imposition of Duties Act and not the Emergency Powers Order this order was made?

Under the Emergency Powers Order, at 45/- f.o.r.

If the Minister's attention is directed to a higher price will he take steps to correct it?

Certainly.
