Vol. 78 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Proposed Air Port in Cork.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when the proposal to provide an air port in Cork will be carried out; and whether in view of the suitability of the site at Knockgriffin, Midleton, any proposal to acquire these lands has been made to the landholders concerned considering the necessity of preparing for tillage of the proposed area.

I would refer to the reply given on May 9th last to the Deputy's question on the same subject. The invitation, then mentioned, to the local authorities to re-open discussions was duly issued by my Department but no further progress has been made regarding the financing of the scheme. I am accordingly not in a position to indicate if or when the project will be carried out. As regards the second part of the question, until the conditions on which the project will proceed have been settled and a decision made on the most suitable site, no proposals to acquire land can be made by me.
