Vol. 79 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reformatory and Industrial Schools Inquiry.

asked the Minister for Education whether he has now completed the examination of all the issues arising out of recommendations of the Cussen Commission of Inquiry into the reformatory and industrial school systems; if he is in a position to state that the recommendations of the commission relating to the appointment of teachers of literary subjects in these schools will be implemented; and, if so, if he will indicate approximately the date at which the recommendations will become operative.

The examination referred to by the Deputy has been completed. With regard to the remainder of the Deputy's question, I regret I am not able to add to my reply of the 12th instant to a similar question.

Could the Minister indicate in any way the approximate date on which the recommendations with regard to the appointment of teachers of literary subjects in industrial schools will become operative? Would it be after the commencement of the new financial year?

After the introduction of the Budget, or about that time, I would be in a position to make a statement on the matter.
