Vol. 79 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition and Division of Land.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Irish Land Commission propose to acquire the estate of the Rev. James Hamilton, Meenalaught, County Donegal.

The question of the acquisition of the untenanted land on the estate of the Rev. James Hamilton, County Donegal, townland of Meenalaught, is under investigation by the Land Commission and, pending the completion of the investigation, it is not possible to say what action, if any, will be taken. The area appears to be about 82 acres and the poor law valuation £3 10s.

Of the whole 82 acres?

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission propose to acquire the lands of William Hopkins, Ballybrit, Rathvilly, County Carlow, for division; and, if so, how the matter now stands.

The Land Commission have had the untenanted lands of Kilmagarvoge on the Estate of William Hopkins inspected but have not yet come to a decision regarding their acquisition.

asked the Minister for Lands whether in view of the keen local agitation for the acquisition and division of the lands of Mr. W. W. Ashe, Blackhall, Kilcullen, County Kildare, he will cause an inspection of these lands to be made with a view to their acquisition and division.

The Land Commission have at present no proceedings for the acquisition of the lands of Blackhall in the occupation of William Ashe but the matter has been noted for consideration as soon as circumstances permit.

May one assume, from the Minister's reply, that the investigation will take place during the currency of the emergency period, or after?

I cannot say at the moment.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware of the acute congestion which prevails in the Ardbraccan area, County Meath; and, if so, if he will take steps to have portion of the large estate of the late Captain Law, of Ardbraccan, acquired by the Land Commission for division amongst the local uneconomic holders and landless men.

The Land Commission have had an inspection made of the lands of Ardbraccan in the occupation of John A. Law, and the question of their acquisition will be considered as soon as circumstances permit.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the Price estate, Coalraine, Cashel, County Tipperary, which contains 600 Irish acres has been inspected by the Land Commission, and if he will state the inspector's report; and whether, in view of repeated applications to have this estate acquired for the relief of congests in the district, the Minister will state when it will be acquired and divided.

Owing to pressure of other work and to the present emergency conditions the Land Commission have not been able to complete their inquiries in regard to the Price estate, and it is not possible to state at present whether, or when, the lands will be acquired.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will instruct the Land Commission to take over the Holloran estate, Lurgoe, Killenaule, Thurles, County Tipperary, for division amongst the uneconomic holders and landless men of the district, which estate contains about 400 acres and is at present in a derelict condition.

The Land Commission have had an inspection made of the lands of Lurgoe on the Holloran estate and the question of their acquisition will be considered as soon as circumstances permit.
