Vol. 79 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Bakers' Flour.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that in fixing the standard price of bakers' flour the price was fixed on a f.o.r. basis, and if he will state how much per sack was taken into account as the average cost of putting flour on rail; if he is aware that at present bakers and others taking delivery ex-mill have to pay f.o.r. prices; and if he will, in any further orders he makes, determine what allowance per sack below the f.o.r. price should be made to persons taking delivery ex-mill.

The producer's price of flour is fixed on a f.o.r. basis and includes a provision for cartage from mill to rail. It would be contrary to established practice to disclose details of the items making up this price. I am not aware that it is the general practice of millers to charge f.o.r. prices to purchasers taking delivery of flour at mill, but if particulars of any cases of this nature are forwarded to my Department, they will be investigated. I am not prepared to adopt the suggestion in the last part of the question, but I am considering whether the price of this commodity should continue to be fixed on a f.o.r. basis.
