Vol. 81 No. 7

Unemployment (Relief Works) Bill, 1940—From the Seanad.

The Dáil went into Committee to consider an amendment from the Seanad.

I move that the Committee agree with the Seanad in the following amendment:—

In Section 9, sub-section (2), page 6, in line 49 the words "for the execution of" deleted and the words "in relation to" substituted; and in line 50 before the word "to" the word "intended" inserted and the words "in such execution" deleted.

This is a drafting amendment inserted in the Seanad.

Our information was that this Bill was not to be taken to-day. Would the Minister give us an explanation of the amendment?

I did not know that the position was as indicated by the Deputy, but it will do just as well to take the Bill to-morrow. There is, however, nothing in the amendment. It is consequential on the insertion of sub-section (2) of Section 8. That sub-section contains the phrase "in respect of a certified work" and this amendment is consequential on it. It is designed to bring sub-section (2) of Section 9 into conformity with the provisions of sub-section (2) of Section 8.

Question put and agreed to.
Report of amendment agreed to.
Ordered: That the Seanad be notified accordingly.
