Vol. 81 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rathdowney Cottage Plots.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state whether land situated at the back of a large number of labourers' cottages in Moore Street, Rathdowney, County Laoighis, was purchased some time ago by the county board of health for the purpose of providing plots for cottage tenants, and if he will state the cause of the delay in fencing the plots and giving possession of same to those concerned for food production purposes.

The reply to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. From a recent report received from the commissioner administering Laoighis Board of Health and Public Assistance it appears that a contract for fencing the plots was executed on the 22nd November last and that the contractor when interviewed as to delay in not having work advanced stated that gates and fencing stakes are being prepared but that he was unable to proceed with the work owing to weather conditions since before Christmas. The commissioner has instructed the contractor to proceed with the work immediately.
