Vol. 81 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Subsidy for House-Building.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state whether he will consider introducing legislation to enable 66? per cent. subsidy to be paid in respect of houses provided by a local authority for persons with large families removed from houses, the accommodation of which is totally inadequate for their requirements, but which could, with alterations, be made fit for habitation by smaller families.

The reply is in the negative. The Exchequer is at present making a very large contribution to housing which is increasing from year to year, and any proposal which would add to the burden could not be considered.
