Vol. 81 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Quality of Margarine.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if the margarine at present supplied in this country is being fortified by the addition of the vitamins which are present in butter.

There is nothing to require margarine manufactured in this country to be vitaminised, but I understand that certain margarines offered for sale are stated to contain vitamins A and D which are the principal vitamins present in butter.

Does the Parliamentary Secretary think it is desirable that the margarine at present being offered should all be brought up to the standard?

Well, in fact, there is not any standard as regards vitamin content.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that all the nine-penny margarine at present being sold in this country is so fortified with the vitamins in question?

I am not aware that it is so fortified, but I am aware that it is said to be so fortified.
