Vol. 81 No. 14

Written Answer. - Supernumerary Teachers.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the number of supernumerary teachers serving in each of the capitation schools in Éire at the present time or on the nearest date for which information is available, under the following heads: (1) Religious, (a) male, (b) female; (2) Lay, (a) male, (b) female, also, if he will state the figures under the above heads for each of the years ended 30th June, 1940, 30th June, 1939, 30th June, 1938, 30th June, 1937, and 30th June, 1936.

The numbers of supernumerary teachers, religious and lay, employed at present and during the past five school years in each of the 406 national schools paid by capitation under the various heads specified cannot be given without an exhaustive scrutiny of the official records relating to each of these schools. The total numbers of supernumerary teachers, religious and lay, employed in these schools are available and they may serve the Deputy's requirements. They are as follows:—
