Vol. 82 No. 8

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take the business on the Order Paper, Nos. 3 and 2, in that order.

Will the Dáil meet next week?

No. We will adjourn until 2nd April.

Why not meet next week?

We have no business.

If the Government is requested to afford time to discuss a matter of considerable urgency, is the Government prepared to meet next week?

We would have to wait and see what the matter is. Nothing has been put before us yet.

But there is no irrevocable decision that in no circumstances will we meet next week?

Nothing irrevocable.

Therefore, if adequate reasons are put before the Government——

It would have to be done to-day.

It could be done before next week.

Between this and the time of the adjournment. We are taking a decision, unless something is put before us.

Are we taking a decision now that we will adjourn until 2nd April? Could not that be left until the time of adjournment?

Is there any reason——

There is no reason to get hot under the collar. We are trying to facilitate the Government. We do not want to be bothering the Government, after a decision has been taken in the open House to adjourn to a certain day, by saying that we want that changed. Circumstances may arise, and probably will arise, in which we will ask the Government for a meeting next week. In those circumstances, would it not be more convenient to postpone a decision as to the date to which we will adjourn until the Dáil is adjourning to-night? There is no question of putting a quick one over on you.

We will see to that.

You have been getting very sprightly in the last couple of days. We may knock a bit of the jump out of you again next week.

Is there a proposal before the House that the Dáil, when adjourning, will adjourn until the week after next?

I take it that no order is being made.
