Vol. 84 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bourne-Vincent Memorial Park.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the fact that the donors of the Bourne-Vincent Memorial Park intended it to be made available to the general public and especially to youth, he will offer its use—including the use of Muckross House—to a committee representing An Oige, the various children's fresh air funds, boys' clubs, trade union holiday homes, etc., in order that the maximum benefit may be obtained from the park and encouragement given to the great outdoor movement which is so essential to the health of the nation's town-dwellers; further, if this is not now possible for any reason arising out of the national emergency, he will give the Dáil an assurance that it will be done as soon as possible, and, in particular, that nothing will be done meanwhile which might prejudice the chances of the house and estate being made available to the Irish people for whom the gift was intended.

Part of Muckross House and grounds is at present occupied by a detachment of the Defence Forces and it is therefore not possible to allocate the premises for any of the purposes suggested.

No indication as to the future utilisation of the premises can be given now.
