Vol. 85 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Oats for Milling.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that oatmeal millers who are also licensed oats dealers cannot get permission to use the oats they have purchased to manufacture oatmeal, and whether in view of the acute shortage of oatmeal he will expedite release of these oats for milling.

Oats have now been released for milling into oatmeal for human consumption in the case of all millers, known to me to be engaged in the business, who have been able to purchase a sufficient quantity of oats to start milling.

When was the release made?

I think it was on the 22nd.

Is the Minister aware that on last Monday there were oatmeal millers in Donegal who had abundant oats in their store but would not be allowed to take it from their store to the mill although there was no oatmeal in the locality?

The decision was made by me on the 22nd October and on the 23rd the millers were circularised.

We may, therefore, assume that there will be sufficient available?

At least, they can use what they have.
