Vol. 85 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cavan Flour Supplies.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he will state what is the result of the latest investigation made by his Department into the mal-distribution of flour in parts of County Cavan.

There has been no suggestion of inequitable distribution of flour in County Cavan. There have been complaints, however, regarding the inadequacy of the quantity made available. I have had inquiries made into these complaints and have found that the circumstances in County Cavan were exceptional during 1940, the year on which the flour quota is based. Arrangements were accordingly made by the flour millers doing business in the county to distribute extra supplies to their customers.

Is the Minister aware that while there was a little improvement for some time, the position for the last month or so has grown worse?

I think the Minister ought to investigate the matter again. I had a reply to a letter which I sent to his Department stating that the matter was under investigation again, but I have not heard the result of that investigation. I hope the Minister will look into it again. It is a very important matter.
