Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Portlaoighise Jail Prisoners.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he will state (a) the average cost per head per week of providing food for prisoners in Portlaoighise Jail; (b) the average total cost per head per week of maintaining these prisoners during the year 1940, and half-year up to 30th June, 1941; (c) the number of prisoners at present detained in this prison.

The average cost per head per week of providing food for prisoners in Portlaoighise Prison, for the year 1940, was 6/-, and for the half year ended 30th June, 1941, 6/8d. (b) The average total cost per head per week of maintaining these prisoners during the year 1940, was 18/-, and for the half year to 30th June, 1941, 17/-. (c) The number of prisoners at present detained in this prison is 106.
