Vol. 85 No. 2

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take the business as on the Order Paper, including the notices of motion in the names of private Deputies. It is also proposed that the motion for the adjournment be taken at 6 p.m. in order to allow a debate on the fuel position.

To what date is it proposed to adjourn?

Wednesday, 12th November.

Might I suggest, if it is not possible to keep the House in session each week, that the Government should consider the advisability of so arranging the sittings that we will have sufficient business for one week, even if we then have to adjourn for a fortnight, rather than have sittings on only one or two days in the week?

Is the Deputy suggesting sittings for three or four days each week?

It would be better to arrange sittings on three or four days in the one week rather than on only one day or two days.

When will the Control of Imports (Amendment) Bill be circulated?

I cannot answer that question just now.

I consider it is a most objectionable practice to put on the Order Paper items that have not been circulated. We have other instances of that. Yesterday I asked when the three supplementary estimates would be circulated and I was told that they would be circulated forthwith. I received two this morning and I do not know where the other one is.

That business was not ordered for to-day.

We were told yesterday that those Estimates were going to be handed to us.

Is it intended that the actual adjournment will take place at 10 p.m. or 10.30 p.m.?

At 10 p.m. by general agreement, as was proposed yesterday. Future arrangements will be discussed by the Committee of Procedure and Privileges.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary have sufficient time to reply?

The proposal is that he be given half an hour in which to conclude the debate.
