Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Building of Houses.

Mr. Brennan

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state in respect of the total number of new houses completed by the 31st December, 1940, under the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Acts, 1932-37, (a) the number, (b) the total all-in cost, (c) the total building cost, and (d) the total amount of this cost which is being borne by the Exchequer, distinguishing between houses to which the terms of the following sections of the Principal Act are applied, viz. Section 6 (1) (a) (i) Section 6 (1) (a) (ii), Section 6 (1) (b).

The information will be included in the Official Report of to-day's proceedings.

The following are the particulars:—

(1) (a) The total number of houses completed by 31st December, 1940, under Section 6 (1) (a) (i) of the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1932, was 14,318; (b) the total all-in cost of these houses was £5,615,029; (c) the total building cost of these houses was £4,777,711; and (d) the total amount of the all-in cost which is being borne by the Exchequer is £3,212,403.

(2) (a) The total number of houses completed by 31st December, 1940, under Section 6 (1) (a) (ii) of the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1932, was 10,757; (b) the total all-in cost of these houses was £4,852,927; (c) the total building cost of these houses was £3,976,451; and (d) the total amount of the all-in cost which is being borne by the Exchequer is £1,446,184.

(3) (a) The total number of houses completed by 31st December, 1940, under Section 6 (1) (b) of the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1932, was 18,109; (b) the total all-in cost of these houses was £5,562,846; (c) the total building cost of these houses was £4,673,951; and (d) the total amount of the all-in cost which is being borne by the Exchequer is £3,164,421.

Adjustments in the figures may be necessary where rates of contribution to annual loan charges have not been finally determined or where costs of houses have been calculated before the entire schemes in which houses have been included were finally completed.
