Vol. 85 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Subsidy on Potatoes.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if with a view to promoting the more extensive cultivation of potatoes as a feeding stuff for live stock he is prepared to grant a subsidy on every acre of potatoes grown during the coming year.

I am not prepared to arrange for the granting of a subsidy, as suggested, for the growing of potatoes.

Would it not appear to the Minister that the subsidising of potatoes, and thereby increasing the acreage under them, would be an ideal solution of this problem?

They are shovelling the potatoes into the alcohol factories now.

We want alcohol also.
