Vol. 85 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bog Drainage.

asked the Minister for Finance whether any and, if so, what amount of money it is proposed to spend upon the drainage of, and road making through the bog area of North Mayo, and further, if he is aware of the great extent that the area in question, which when improved would enable a vastly increased production of turf to be made next season.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that the efforts to produce turf in waterlogged bogs in South Meath in the past year were unsatisfactory and uneconomic, and, if so, if he will take steps in the immediate future to have those bogs drained so that the fuel needs of County Meath can be supplied from its own bogs.

I will deal with Questions Nos. 5 and 6 together. Adequate steps will be taken to provide facilities for the production of turf next year to meet the requirements of the areas referred to by the Deputies.
