Foot and Mouth Outbreak: Motion.

I formally move:—

That in view of the enormous losses suffered by the live-stock industry as a result of the recent outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, and in order to ensure that any further outbreak will be expeditiously dealt with, a select committee of seven Deputies to be nominated by the Committee of Selection, and with powers to send for persons, papers and documents, be appointed to investigate publicly the circumstances attending the recent outbreak; the methods adopted to prevent it spreading; and the reason for the failure to eradicate it in a reasonable period, and to report to the Dáil and make recommendations.
