Vol. 85 No. 5

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business on the Order Paper in the following order:—Nos. 3, 4 (Votes 69 and 46), 7 and 8, No. 2 to be taken in its appropriate place. Private Deputies' business will be taken at 8 o'clock.

When will No. 10, Control of Imports (Amendment) Bill, 1941, be circulated?

I cannot say.

Would the Minister for Local Government and Public Health say when No. 11—National Health Insurance Bill, 1931—will be circulated?

I cannot say. Some difficulties have arisen which will defer the circulation of the Bill.

Is it likely to be circulated in the near future?

We hope so.

Would the Minister for Industry and Commerce indicate whether in view of the chaotic condition of our transport services he would endeavour to arrange time with the Government for the discussion of Motion No. 19?

No; certainly not. I do not think it would be of the slightest advantage in dealing with the alleged chaotic condition of our transport services.

What has become of your policy in respect to these transport services as indicated in your speech in Athlone when you stated that it would be the policy of your Government to nationalise transport services?

The Deputy can ask that question when Motion No. 19 comes before the House.

Has the Minister changed his policy since then?

I shall answer that question when the motion is before the House.

On account of its temporary nature, the proposal that the Dáil rise at 9.30 p.m. was not framed as an amendment of Standing Orders but as a resolution, in simple terms, overriding the Standing Orders for the time being. The Committee on Procedure and Privileges have agreed that it is in accordance with practice to regard a resolution of this nature as implying a general authority to the Chair to apply corresponding advancements to all relative times prescribed in the Standing Orders, without specific provision to that effect.

I do not think the Gárda Síochána Pensions (No. 2) Order has been very long in our hands. When was it circulated?

It was laid on the Table of the House.

I suggest that it be left over until 6 o'clock.

Would the Minister be agreeable to postpone consideration of the motion until 6 o'clock so that we might have an opportunity of considering it?

Mr. Boland

I am anxious to have it taken now. Unfortunately for myself I did not know the Dáil was sitting to-day and I made arrangements to keep another appointment this evening.

Could it not be postponed until to-morrow?

Mr. Boland

Yes.

Ordered accordingly.
