Written Answers. - Intermediate Examinations in Greek.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state (1) the total number of boys examined in Greek in the Intermediate Certificate Examination, 1941: (2) the number of marks required for a pass in Greek; (3) the number who failed in Greek according to the original marking circulated on the 29th August; (4) the number of these who passed in Greek as a result of the increasing of the marks by 10 per cent.; and (5) the number who would have failed in the general examination as a result of the original Greek marking, but who passed in the general examination as a result of the revised Greek marking.

The total number of boys examined in the subject in 1941 was 864 (including two evacuees); the number of marks required for a pass was 160; the number of boys who failed to pass on the original marking was 414; the number of those who passed in the subject as a result of the revision of the marks was 78; the number who would have failed in the examination as a whole but who passed as a result of the revised marking in Greek was two.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of the Intermediate Certificate (Boys) Examination held in each of the following years, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1940 and 1941 (original marking) and 1941 (revised marking) (1) the total number of boys who got honours in Greek; (2) the total number of boys obtaining 75 per cent. and upwards in Greek.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state for each of the 16 years, whose records, according to his statement of the 12th November, have already been examined (1) the total number of boys who sat for the Intermediate Certificate Examination in Greek; (2) the total number of marks allotted to Greek as a subject; (3) the number of marks necessary for a pass; (4) the number of marks necessary for honours; (5) the percentage of boys who failed; (6) the percentage of boys who passed, and (7) the percentage who passed with honours.
