Vol. 85 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Electricity.

asked the Minister for Supplies why, in addition to the charges for coal-generated electricity those also for that generated solely by water, have been raised.

The recent application by the Electricity Supply Board for an increase of 10 per cent. in their charges for electricity to all consumers (with the exception of public lighting and unmetered and slot consumers) was considered and sanctioned after the fullest investigation. Apart from other considerations, owing to the board's system of supply it is not practicable to make the segregation in units of electricity delivered to the consumer as suggested in the question.

The price of the water has not gone up.

Could the Minister say what percentage of national electricity is produced by water power and by coal?

That is a separate question.
