Vol. 85 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Relief Works in County Kildare.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state what sums of money it is proposed to spend on unemployment relief works in County Kildare during the present winter period, the nature of the works to be undertaken, and the approximate date of their commencement.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state what sums of money it is proposed to allocate to the Kildare County Council for unemployment relief works during the present winter period, the nature of the works to be undertaken, and the approximate date of their commencement.

I propose to take questions Nos. 8 and 33 together. A sum pro rata to the needs of County Kildare, approximately, as indicated by the unemployment assistance figures, will be made available from the Employment Schemes Vote in the present winter. The works will be of the usual type, viz. (a) improvement of county roads, and (b) repair and construction of accommodation and bog roads for the benefit of the agricultural community, and the like. It is hoped to put these works in hands in the near future.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary say what amount of money in fact will be expended on these works?

No, I cannot say.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary say when the local authority will be informed as to when the scheme will be commenced?

At the earliest date possible.
