Vol. 85 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pharmacy Legislation.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether it is his intention to introduce a new Pharmacy Bill or amending legislation and what progress has been made in the examination of the question since the matter was last raised in this House.

It is not intended at present to introduce a Pharmacy Bill. It was reported in the public Press that the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland gave evidence before the Commission on Vocational Organisation and it is proposed to await the report of the commission before deciding on legislative proposals.

The Parliamentary Secretary is, of course, aware that a reply was given last November 12 months that the Department was considering this matter.

Has the Department considered the matter, apart from noting that a certain body gave evidence before the commission?

There was no decision to introduce legislation. The matter has been considered and it is not proposed to take any action at present.

Even amending legislation?

Could the matter not be fully examined with the Minister's colleagues, and not wait for the report of the Vocational Commission before introducing legislation?

It is proposed to wait in this case.
