Vol. 85 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supply of Kelp.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the amount of kelp available to supply potassic manures for beet, flax, and other crops, for the coming season, and the extent to which this supply is greater or less than the amount available last year.

The total amount of kelp produced during last season from May to July was 720 tons, and this was purchased by an Irish firm of fertiliser manufacturers. The Department has no information as to what quantity of this is on hands for the coming manurial season.

During this year's kelp season it is hoped that upwards of 1,000 tons will be produced for the same purpose, but this will not be in the hands of the fertiliser manufacturers until the end of July.
