Vol. 85 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Turf Prices in Athy.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he has received a complaint regarding the prices charged by the Turf Committee of the Athy Urban Council for turf, and, if so, if he will state what action he has taken in the matter.

No complaint has been received.

This question was, I think, addressed to the Minister for Supplies. I do not know how it comes to be put down to the Minister for Finance. A definite complaint was sent to the Minister for Supplies on the subject. If that Minister would answer the question, he would not be able to get away with so convenient a reply.

There is no desire to get away with a convenient reply. The Deputy may have an opportunity of putting something of the same nature to me later in a supplementary question.

I should like to remind the Parliamentary Secretary that if, by the permission of the House, he makes a statement, there can be no debate discussion on that statement, there being no motion before the House. A few relevant and brief questions might be permitted by the Chair.

Arising out of the reply to Question No. 9, a complaint was definitely made to the Department of Supplies in connection with this overcharge by the Athy Urban Council. I believe that my question was directed to the Minister for Supplies, but it has been put down to the Minister for Finance. I speak subject to correction but, if the question was addressed to the Minister for Supplies, I am not responsible for the set of circumstances which enables the Parliamentary Secretary to say he got no complaint. I have an acknowledgement of a complaint from the Minister for Supplies.

I shall have inquiries made as to whom the question was addressed.
