Vol. 86 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Co. Borough School Hours.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is satisfied with the operation of the new school hours in the Dublin County Borough area.

The arrangement, sanctioned in view of the existing restrictions in the supply of gas, under which the school day may be divided into two sessions with a mid-day break of an hour and a half in the area of Dublin and district served by the Alliance and Dublin Consumers' Gas Company has been, I find, adopted in the majority of schools in that area and, in a number of other schools in the area, an extended lunch period is observed.

From the information at present before me, I have no reason to think otherwise than that the operation of the arrangement in the schools in which it has been adopted is of advantage to the vast majority of the children concerned.
