asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the capital indebtedness of the several local bodies at the latest date for which the figures are available, differentiating between (a) councils of counties, (b) committees of mental hospitals, (c) councils of county boroughs, (d) urban district councils, (c) town commissioners, (f) joint boards for burial, port, sanitary and other purposes, (g) boards of health and public assistance, (h) harbour authorities; and if he can give an estimate of the total annual charges in respect of the above bodies for (1) interest, and (2) sinking fund for extinction of debt purposes.

The latest returns of local taxation published relate to the financial year ended the 31st March, 1940. The capital indebtedness of local bodies is given on page 27 of the report. The total annual charges in respect of repayment of loans is given in the returns as follows:—
