Vol. 86 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flour Shortage in Kerry.

Mr. Flynn

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware of the shortage of flour in the areas of Cahirciveen, Ballinskelligs, Valentia, Waterville, Caherdaniel and Castlecove, and if in view of the plight of the people concerned, he will arrange for anadequate supply at the earliest possible date.

I have received complaints alleging shortage of flour in some of the areas mentioned and the general question is at present being investigated by an outdoor officer of my Department.

Mr. Lynch

Is the Minister aware that the quota system as applied to areas of that type, where only mixed bread was used, is entirely inequitable, and would he not consider the immediate application of a rationing system to these areas?

Deputies should be fully aware of the position of the rationing scheme in relation to bread if they read the newspapers.

When will it come into force?

Read the daily papers. It has been published several times.

That is a nonsensical reply.
