Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Housing Inquiry.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the date on which the Dublin Housing Committee of Inquiry was appointed, the names of the persons appointed to conduct the inquiry, whether they have completed the taking of evidence, and, if so, the date on which the taking of evidence, concluded; whether they have presented their report on the inquiry, and, if so, the date on which the report was presented; and, further, whether he will state the action it is proposed to take in regard to the inquiry.

The Committee of Inquiry into Dublin Housing was set up on 21st March, 1939. Mr. M. P. Colivet, Chairman of the Housing Board, was appointed to conduct the inquiry in association with Mr. Thomas Johnson, member of the Housing Board, Mr. T.C. Courtney, chief engineering adviser, Department of Local Government and Public Health; Mr. H.S. Moylan, a principal officer of the Local Government Department, and Mr. J.E. Hanna, assistant secretary, Department of Finance. The examination of witnesses concluded in April, 1940. The report has not yet been presented. Members of the committee have been assigned special duties in connection with pressing problems created by the emergency and this has prevented a speedier preparation of the report. The preparation is being proceeded with as expeditiously as circumstances permit.
