Vol. 86 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ministerial Pensions.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the names of all ex-Ministers and ex-Parliamentary Secretaries who have made application for pensions under the Ministerial and Parliamentary Offices Act, 1938, and all other salaries, pensions and allowances received by those persons from public funds.

The names asked for by the Deputy will be found on page 33 of the Finance Accounts for the financial year ended 31st March, 1941, which were duly presented to the Oireachtas.

Of the persons mentioned Senators Desmond Fitzgerald and Michael Hayes, and Deputies Patrick McGilligan, John M. O'Sullivan, Risteárd Ua Maolchatha and Fionán Lynch are in receipt of allowances as members of the Oireachtas. Deputies Ua Maolchatha and Lynch are in receipt of military service pensions, and Professor Eoin MacNeill receives a salary as Chairman of the Irish Manuscripts Commission.

Is the Minister aware of the statement made by the Leader of this House on the introduction of the Ministerial and Parliamentary Offices Bill, 1938, that the money would be paid only on personal application and, he hoped nobody would apply except in cases of dire necessity? Is the Minister aware of that?

I do not remember that statement.

Is the Minister aware that the Deputy voted for the Bill in question?

Yes, on the statement of the Leader of the House. I would further ask the Minister whether any of these poor people have yet applied for home assistance?

Has the Deputy?
